date night at the playhouse.

My in laws gave Matty and I 2014 season tickets to the Hale Center Theater in Orem for our birthdays last year. In their card they noted that babysitting was included. I was very excited for the gift because this playhouse is my favorite, but I didn't quite understand just how great the gift really was. Probably because when you are married sans kids, every night is date night. We could stay home, go out, or do anything we wanted to do and relax doing it. And it's always just the two of us. But now, "just the two of us" is a little foreign and so is "relax." I love being a mom and being with the wee one, but I can see why it's important to spend some couple time alone together.

My in laws came over. It was sad to leave the boy and I thought about him the whole time we were gone. During intermission I actually had to go through the photos on my phone because I missed his face. I may have also texted my MIL a few times to check in. It's just how I am.

We got dinner beforehand, stopped at the gas station for treats, and went over to the playhouse to see Kiss and Tell, which is about three families during world war 2. The main actress was quite good. Her past credits include an eight year stint on General Hospital so you know she's a talent. ;) I really enjoyed it, and I left feeling quite cultured.

I'm amped for the rest of the plays. It will be a fun thing to do this year. Thank you, in laws, for the date night.

  1. "When you're married sans kids, every night is date night." Such wisdom. I am still adjusting to the fact that date nights for us are few and far between because it's too much work to arrange babysitting. What amazing birthday gifts!
