My mother-in-law lives about ten minutes away. She is one of Jack's hugest fans and is always trying to get Matty and I to go on dates or just leave anywhere so that she can watch him. It's a huge blessing for me because Matt and I can go out together occasionally, and it's a huge blessing for Jack because his Grandma Hayes showers him with attention and affection (which he needs a lot of lately).
A few weeks ago she said she wanted to start taking him for a few hours one day every week so that I can get some work done. So every Wednesday around 9:30, she picks him up and watches him until about 2:00. She always tells me tales of where they go walking and how she brings him to the humanitarian center and all the old ladies go nuts over him. She actually bought a baby swing for their backyard especially for him. It's such a special thing to watch your child create bonds with other people. It's such a weird feeling not having Jack around for those few hours. I'm tip toeing around because I think he's napping, and then I remember he's not here (though it still feels ill-spirited to start jumping and skipping around). I miss him so much, but I get a ton of work done in that small space of time. What did I even do with all my free time before I had a kid?!
Anyway, thank you, Grandma Hayes. She said Jack is a lot like Matty in his napping habits (very bad bad habits). I hope to be able to pass along this kind gesture to my daughter-in-law one day when she has a boy since it seems the bad napping habits are genetic.
I love Janice! It's bittersweet when they're gone, but it's so good for Jack to be so loved by his grandparents. He's such a cutie!
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in-law suggested something similar for me. It must be a generous grandma thing. AND it's a blessing for all parties.
ReplyDeleteGrandparents are always the sweetest As cute as your little Jack is, I would take him in a heartbeat :)
