//fake camping

The Sunday before Memorial Day, the Lyons wanted to come over and do some fake camping in our backyard. What a great idea, because real camping with a 1-year-old doesn't sound as good as the fake kind where he can sleep in his crib. So they came over in the evening and Matty barbecued up some chicken. Matt Lyon set up a tent, and the boys were in love. Jack loved being inside of it with his cousins, even though Andrew threw him out a few times, ha! They giggled and giggled. If you looked at the tent from afar, you could see all the sides being pushed and jostled and heaved. Who knew what was happening inside with those three boys. Matty made us a great fire and we roasted some marshmallows and made s'mores. Jack was loving the marshmallows raw and the chocolate raw and the graham crackers raw. He hasn't yet learned about the power of the combination. Jack got as dirty as could be. The tent ended up breaking at one point, so we headed inside to play. Lisa brought some sparklers and some smoke bombs, so when it got darker we had fun lighting them. Matt Lyon also brought and set up the telescope and we saw the moon and its craters up close. Science!

This was a great kickstart to summer. It set a high bar.

  1. I love Jack's face when his dad is showing him a sparkler. What an adorable idea! I'll have to steal it and try it out with Scarlet.
